How to Select a Qualified Surgeon -

Plastic surgery includes both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Reconstructive surgery is performed to improve physical function or to minimize disfigurement caused by accidents, disease or birth defects.

Cosmetic surgery seeks to reshape a physical feature for the purpose of improving appearance only.

A plastic surgeon, in the true sense of the word, is highly trained in both of these categories though, over time, is likely to find himself specializing in one or the other.

Unfortunately, any licensed medical doctor can hang a sign
advertising “cosmetic surgeon.”

He is often a physician who has received training in one area,
such as ophthalmology (eye) or dermatology (skin), then later
chooses to practice cosmetic surgery.

He may have obtained his training from weekend seminars or
studied briefly under someone, but lacks the proper education,
training and experience necessary to minimize risks and maximize
the likelihood of good results.

With so many doctors now performing cosmetic surgery, it is
important to consider the experience of the surgeon.
